Module 6 - Source Information
Source information is very important when performing research. Organizing this information and maintaining it can be time-consuming and frustrating. PowerResearcher makes working with source information easy.

Anytime you capture text or images from a Web page or an entire Web page, PowerResearcher tracks source information such as the URL, page name, and the date/time the information was captured. Source information can be displayed in the Content Pane, the Project Pane, and in the Research Log.

When you paste text or an image from a Web page into a word processing document, PowerResearcher automatically does the following as seen below:

  1. Adds a Source Line above the pasted information with the Web page title and URL.
  2. Puts the text in quotes.
  3. Changes text to an alternate color.

These serve to remind you that the information came from a particular source.

Although pasted text, like that above, can be edited in the word processing document to change the color and remove the Source Line, the fact that the information was obtained from a Web page is stored in the PowerResearcher project and cannot be removed or edited. This logging information can be viewed in both the Project Pane, as seen below, and the Research Log (see Module 8 of this demo).

Now that you know more about source information in PowerResearcher, you can learn about doing citations in Module 7.
