This module will familiarize you
with the interface layout of PowerResearcher, show you how to resize panes,
look at different views, and save a project.
Let’s take a quick look at the basic layout of the PowerResearcher interface.
There are three main ‘panes’ to the interface – the Project Pane, the Content Pane, and the Browser Pane (see the figure below).
All three panes are completely
resizable. Just move your cursor to the edge of the pane you want to resize
(see the figure to the right), ‘grab’ the edge by holding down
the left mouse button when the cursor changes, then (while still holding down
the mouse button) move your mouse to either expand or reduce the size of the
pane.
To resize a pane, left-click to 'grab' the right edge of the pane and 'pull' or expand the pane to the right. You will see that the full names for the different elements in that pane are now completely visible.
Now let’s look at the different view modes you have with PowerResearcher. Each view mode has a tab at the bottom of the page.
The software defaults to the Edit and Browse mode. You can tell which view mode you’re in by which tab is slightly larger than the others. For example, in the figure above this paragraph, the Edit and Browse tab is the one selected. Changing view modes will not alter anything in your project - it just changes how you see the panes and gives you access to additional functions that we'll show later in this demo.
Now that you have learned about the PowerResearcher panes, how to resize them, and how to change view modes, you are ready to begin Module 2.
